As I See It…Imagine listening to an all male chorus, three hundred strong singing All Hail the Power of Jesus Name. Imagine the chills that would descend your spine as you participated with 3,000 pastors singing the praises of our God accompanied by a full-stopped organ and orchestra. One man called it the vocal equivalent of a male tsunami. I viewed it as a lot of spiritual testosterone. Imagine being one of thousands of pastors who can look each other in the eye and have an instant bond of affectionate understanding for what each other does…without having to explain it! Imagine hearing the Word of God preached with power, clarity and consistency though delivered by nine different speakers. Imagine being spiritually energized, refreshed and refocused for ministry so that you can feel the gates of hell trembling at your new found conviction and joy of serving your Lord. Imagine spending three solid days of being “pampered” by a congregation of volunteers (literally hundreds of them) who had multiple stations of food, beverages and various refreshments available 10 hours a day…for free. One friend said you didn’t so much eat meals at this conference as you did graze throughout the day! Imagine having your shoes shined by a sales executive of a major corporation simply because he wanted to serve you and make your time encouraging and special. Imagine being reunited with friends you haven’t seen in years with warm embraces and love…being renewed in fellowship as if no time had passed since you last met. Imagine sitting in the warm sunshine for an hour in the beginning of March listening to a powerful sermon from God’s word. Imagine leaving your church family and within twenty-four hours of your departure have the indescribable joy of hearing that seven young boys trusted Jesus as their Savior and by doing so becoming living memorials to their former godly “coach.” Imagine receiving twenty-three great new books for your library as a gift for just coming to the conference. Imagine the joy of comparing your reading quests with various men of similar interest; of praying with them about the challenges and joys of things learned and experienced in the service of our Lord. And finally, imagine a generous and gracious congregation who was willing to let you go to such a conference so that your spiritual batteries could be recharged for another year. Actually, you don’t have to imagine the latter, you’ve lived it! From your very grateful pastor: Thank You! Pastor Megilligan |
