| As I see it…
Airports can be a microcosm of our modern culture. There are all sizes and a variety of content within each one. Some are new and elegant. Some are old and at various stages of trying to become new. And, of course, at any particular time of the day or night they will be inhabited by an extensive cross-section of our national population. There are concourses to lead you to your point of embarkation. There are waiting areas for the inevitable…waiting. And at most airports there are stores, kiosks, and restaurants more than happy to relieve you of any extra money or plastic you want to throw their way. But alas, flying has lost its allure and somewhat early romantic bidding. I remember the day, some forty years ago, when I took my first flight. It gave me a sense of prestige; a sense of being part of the elite who could travel fast and arrive in style. In my latter days, flying has become an endurance test. There is nothing much attractive about the event. The only possible exception occurs when you get to fly business or first class. At least the endurance test then is slightly more comfortable. As far as the fast part is concerned, the Department of Home Land Security has put a big dent in that. In some cases it’s now possible to spend as much time on the road, in line and waiting for a plane as it would be to drive to your destination of choice. For the most part I don’t mind the inconveniences foisted upon me (in the name of security), but for the life of me, why some machine wants to examine my smelling shoes is beyond me. Such is the life-style demanded now days if you’re going to fly in our present culture. But then I got to thinking about what the Lord has in store for those of us who eagerly await His coming. We are told that in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye we will be caught up in the air to be with him…and so shall we ever be. Amen! Just think, there will be no waiting for: delayed flights, bad weather, security checks or lost luggage. And as far as that flight is concerned, not even NASA can touch the experience that God has in store for those of us who look for His coming! Not to mention Delta, US Prayer (…er) Air, Southwest or any of the rest. Pastor Megilligan |
