| As I see it…
As I have said before in this space, I am neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet. All I know along that line is what’s recorded in Scripture. And, you don’t need a proper set of prophetic genes in order to follow world events in light of biblical prophecy. Having said that, recent events in the Middle East have ratcheted up a bit. Not surprisingly, Israel finds herself in the midst of unprovoked yet belligerent attacks from a group calling itself in Arabic, “The Party of God.” Most people who read this little article know that there is God and there is “god.” Allah is the name Islam prefers for its god. But as far as I can tell it wasn’t until the seventh century AD that “Allah” made himself known to humanity. This alone puts him behind several thousand years of human revelation and an eternity of divine existence from the God of the Bible. At best, from this country preacher’s point of view, Allah is still a god spelled with lower case letters in the English language; at worst, he is a corruption of a variegated conglomeration of Mohammed’s imagination revealed in a purported vision. Now, I’m not out to pick a fight with the Islamic religion, or those who believe that way. I’m just saying that it’s a little difficult to try and accept a “party of god” who’s sowing seeds of its religion by launching its rockets upon innocent people. But given the history of the descendants of Esau and Jacob, Ishmael and Isaac, what we are currently viewing is nothing new under the sun…but then, Solomon already said that. We now have a revised contemporary version of Satan’s attempt to keep the pot boiled against the people of Israel and those who would stand with her. Terrorists rattle their swords and the world population is put into a heightened state of anxiety. But beyond and above that are the increasing number of storms, flooding, earthquakes and similar catastrophes. You only need to be a student of the Bible just a little bit to realize that God’s eschatological clock is winding down. To be sure, Israel and Jerusalem are the stumbling blocks at the center of all this, Ezekiel told us that about 2,500 years ago. Nonetheless, Christians should be proceeding through life with their eyes looking upward and their hearts moved with compassion outward to those who live without the knowledge of God’s eschatological clock. In the meantime, believers should join the apostle John and say, “Come quickly, Lord Jesus!” Pastor Megilligan |
