As I see it…

I was reminded again last night of a matter that I have frequently faced. It has to do with perspective. Facing life and each other on a horizontal plane, as we do most all the time, limits us to at best a two-dimensional view of things. I remember standing at an over-look at a gorgeous valley in Switzerland. We had just finished driving up roughly two-thirds of the northern face of this massive mountain range. There below us was a relatively flat valley running east and west for at least a hundred miles below us. The valley was about 35 miles wide and bordered by another mountainous incline which began on the southern side of the valley at least matching the thousands of feet in height parallel to where we stood. As we were taking in this mid-morning vista, we were suddenly disturbed by a roaring sound coming through the valley. Then, right in front of us for just a brief second, were a couple of Swiss fighter jets ascending through the valley. The uniqueness of our view was that since we were standing at our elevation, we were looking down on the planes! With the aid of a telescopic lens, I could look right into the cockpit of one of the jets racing by. Several days later, we left Switzerland to return home. Our commercial jet ascended to 35,000 feet. As I looked out the window seeking to take a few last pictures of the Alps, I realized the previous perspective of mountains and valleys palled by comparison to this view. Many hours later we passed over Niagara Falls. From our cruising altitude, these majestic falls and water basin appeared as if some unknown hand was stirring a rather small tea cup. Again, it was a matter of perspective. Sometimes we live too close to a problem which is plaguing us. Or, we may even be the problem. On other occasions, a situation that we are facing seems larger than our ability to comprehend it, let alone handle it. More than likely, we have lost perspective. Rather than trusting an omnipotent, infinite and omnipresent God with our difficulties, we try “to wing it” alone. Why? We realize that we have no means with which to resolve our concerns. As a child of God, isn’t it exactly at this point that our faith is being probed and prodded? Do you not think that our loving heavenly Father is just waiting for us to trust Him? Since you’ve already lost perspective and His perspective is the best going, what’s to lose? He who sits in the heavens…will speak…How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!
